its the standard MB fit sitting in the top section of the between seats box, with the handset which comes out attached to a wire. Integrated to the Command and steering wheel controls.
I have the Aux input and was quite pleased to just plug in the iPod. Question for the forum on the input however. I find that my volume control with the Aux input needs to be turned up significantly to get the same volume level as with AM/FM. I need to turn the output volume on the iPod almost full blast and then still turn up the volume on the head unit.
Any thought or suggestions? Have others experienced a similar situation?
Ive always noticed this with any MP3 player over CD or Radio. There's always a level reduction. And the more modern they are the worse - the makers are ever more worried about Health and Safety and future repercussions over hearing losses, hence the reductions in levels. Its v annoying , IMHO, especially with headphones.
In this particular case I don't find it crippling - ie Im able to get v decent levels from the MB stereo with the AUX mp3 connected.

same problem on my E430: my IPOD NANO (the latest model) works but the volume is not very strong, i wondering if it could be better with a bigger IPOD like a TOUCH or CLASSIC? what do you thing about it?
Quick question, my 2001 E55 has the standard radio. I looked in the glove box and do not have a female input jack. Do you need the nav option to get this jack. Also, I am considering an aftermarket radio to get the ipod connection. Any suggestions?
i don't have it in my 2002 E430's glovebox. yes, i have nav, voicecommand, phone, xenon lights, etc.
could it be that when the guys installed my XMplayer in the ashtray, they used the AUX plug from the glovebox????? is that even possible? (i haven't asked the guys who installed it)
