Hi, I have a 2000 E55 with 60,000miles, My extended warranty is about to expire next month. The car does not seem to be "pulling" as hard when you give full throttle. Mercedes has checked the MAS, changed plugs, air filters, both cats, and more. Nothing seems to get it back to normal performance. However, when they reset the adaptations, the car pulls very strong, but that only lasts for about a day, then it "falls asleep" again. I think its a mechanical problem in the engine, like bad compression or something, that the electronics wont detect, and therefore they don’t want to fix it for me if they don’t have check engine light or any codes...Anyone have suggestions? Would a dyno test confirm the power loss? What I don’t get is why the car performs after the reseat of adaptations and then becomes slow again....that kind of rules out mechanical problem?
My money is on the MAF sensor. MBZ will not replace it until it completely fails...three months after my warranty expired. I found one on Ebay ($200 - $250) for $200 shipped, and replaced it myself. She runs like a champ, and MBZ did not get my business. BOSCH PART #0280217810; MBZ Cross reference Part #1130940048
I should note the MAF was replaced already 2 times...And also, when you driving about 40mph and give about 50% throttle (not enough to cause downshift) at about 3,000rpm you hear a rattle from engine, that goes away when you hit about 4000,rpm. Again Mercedes agrees that they hear the rattle but do not seem to want to do anything about it.
AvantgardeE55: Which MB dealership are you using? Im in T-Dot also. Would be nice to hear experiences from others.

I used to take the car to silver arrow on lakeshore, then to queensway once they closed silver arrow, no complaints on my service advisors...
Also, I was trying to reset my ECU as per instructions on this forum, but I do not know if I am doing it properly...turn key on so fan is on, press gas to floor (kickdown button pressed or not???) hold for 5 seconds then turn key to off position then release gas wait two minutes.
Went to my dealer today, they checked the MAF according to them its fine. I asked them about this ECU reset method, they claim they do not know about this method. I still do not know if its resetting....I will be taking the car to another dealer and will ask them to reset my ECU and see if anything happens.
