I found 2 2001 E55s, same color, same options, but 1 has 105,000 miles and the other one has 71,000 miles. The higher mileage E55, however, was a CPO car, and seems to have been maintained better, and 2 owners. The 71k mile E55 had 3 owners, and it was sold at auto auctions in the last few months.
Does the fact that the 100k E55 was a CPO car and indications that it was maintained better make it a smarter choice?? or should i go w/ the lower mileage car. thanks for your suggestions

I believe that lower mileage is always better, but if the oil wasn’t changed or the car was run ragged then the higher mileage car may be better if it was taken care of. I don’t know without seeing them both. I bought an 01 with 36,000 miles with 4 owners don’t worry about how many owners the car has that’s only for resale if you are trying to buy it and resale for a profit to someone else. Plus some dealers have problems selling high mileage hi-performance cars due to maintenance unknowns like you have here in your chose. Buy the better car or look for a lower mileage E55, or this may be up to you budget.
I have no idea what the asking price is, but here are some numbers to consider. Trade in value is ~$17,400 for the 105K vehicle, and ~$18,800 for the 71K vehicle. Initially, CPO add ~$2,500 to the value of any given vehicle. It would be safe to assume the CPO value has depreciated to ~$1,500. Thus both vehicles are ~ the same value. Trust your intuition, and pick one. Or, add another comparable E55 to the mix: eBay Motors: Mercedes-Benz : E-Class (item 270095182727 end time Mar-11-07 01:00:00 PST) Good luck.
You may want to consider that the E55 with 71k is probably eligible for some sort of aftermarket warranty, whereas I doubt you will find any warranties that will cover the one with 100k+.
thanks guys. after giving it some more thought, i think i should get a lower mileage E55 to justify parting with my E420. so what is true trade-in price for a 01 E55 with about 35k miles? 20, 21k?

In excellent condition: the trade in value is ~$22K. Last year, I purchased my 00 E55 with 40k miles (and the balance of it's then current warranty) for $25K. No regrets. Good luck.
I would go with the higher mileage one personally. PM me with more info on the 71K car, I can probably tell you what the seller paid for it at the auction, maybe you get a better price.
