it really works. If i drive the car like a grandma for too much the car starts to feel sluggish so i reset maybe once every 1-2 weeks. If you drive it sporty after doing reset it seems to keep the performance feel for longer. hope that helps.
im going to have to agree...the car does adapt to how you drive. after i changed my battery, it seems "slower" then it used to be. might do that reset, we'll see...

Drive by wire....yes, it learns your driving habits until it is reset. OBDII systems was the beginning to drive by wire electronics. Fuel economy and emissions are the main reasons for adaptive learning. If it was performance orientated, it would stay in gear longer and shift closer to redline........not the best for fuel economy and emissions.
No, I'm not a MB engineer. But I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night.
in theory, it resets the adaptive tranny, acquired as it averages and learns how you
drive. the reset sets to zero and it relearns all over again.
1. Turn the ignition key to the on (not start) position.
2. Press the gas pedal to the floor and hold for five seconds.
3. Turn the key to the "off" position (don't remove the key), then release the gas pedal.
4. Wait at least two minutes for ECU to reset.
reading of where others have said not needed to wait 2 mins (step 4)
Just did an ECU rest for the first time on my 2000 E55 (owner since January). All I can say is WOW!. The 'sluggishnish' I was experiencing off the line is no more! This thing launches like a monster now. Before doing the ECU rest, I was thinking that a new MAF sensor was needed. Definitley not the case. Thanks for the info.
A few questions though....is there any down side in regards to doing the ECU reset? Can this impact anything else? Also, any know issues with doing the reset on a regular basis?
havent heard of anything else yet. this has been posted/in use for about a year
now. have yet to hear of cons or compelling reasons not to perform the reset.
i drive my E320 like a senior. save my lead foot for my truck and motorcycle.
