Is this normal on startup? New to me W210 2002 E55.
I just got a 2002 E55 (W210) and have driven it only 250km so far due to local weather. When I turn the ignition key to start and let go, it goes "groom groom" than turns over (all within a mili-second or so). Is this the normal V8 sound? Im used to inline four turbos and they just turn over cleanly with one "vroom". The car doesn't shake or anything. It turns over fine. Im just not sure if this is supposed to be like that. Definitely new to the muscle V8 world.
Thanks.

If I understand this correctly, your car when you turn it over goes up in RPM...then down then up again. Mine doesn't do that ...it starts and stays at the same RPM...slowly going down to Idle as it warms up.
mine does a bit, revs up to about 1500 then settles at 1000 for 2-3 sec then back down to 700. Seems normal to me, then again I do have K&Ns which to tend to accentuate that, nothing of real concern.
When i started it this morning, it did it again (sounds like it fired twice to crank over - all within a second or so). I started again at lunch and it turned over cleanly without the "hesitation".
I didn't really noticed the RPM going up and down drastically. Sounds to me more like it was trying to fire up the engine. Not sure if that's the right terminology.
I will drive it more to see if it is consistent. Maybe it was sitting for a while before I picked up the car. Luckily, it is still under MB ext. warranty.
If I had to write out my E55's start up I guess it would be "whickedy-whickedy-whee BrrraAAAAARRRRrrrr". After 15 sec or so it drops a couple of hundred RPM (Sooner if I move the gear selector).
If your car is behaving oddly then the usual two suspects are a)MAF (air flow sensor in the inejction) and b) old and shagged-out battery. AMG batteries are 100AH units; I know for sure mine would start on only 21AH of current because this was measured by a garage while I was trying to work out what the hell wuz goin' on...
Got the car back. They replaced some ME computer module. Supposedly not getting enough ooompph to prime properly. I really don't know if it is cure now. I think I really need to hear another car to confirm the proper E55 V8 startup.
b5audia4,
I may have driven that car before you bought it, does it have a new mileage cluster? (set to zero) if so its probably the same car...because when I stated it, it did not sound proper and had trouble starting up. Also did it have work done to the engine? because when I looked under hood, saw many new parts like new valve covers...
