In my 2kE55, an annoying hissing/whistling sound is infiltrating the cabin to a frustrating, cheap, and or design flaw, level. This sound, which mimics restricted air or a partially opened window, goes away when either the Air Recirculator is selected/pressed and or the hood is raised.
It is very embarrassing having my audio levels high just to mask this annoyance. Any help in correcting this would be appreciated.
Pls Note. I'm a first time benz owner and $$$ is not always at my disposal, so be kind...
Well, my November 2000 E 220 CDI does the same and I' ve asked Mercedes shop what was that. They said to me that the noise is coming from the ventilation motor. To fix it I need a new motor... wich I could have done but it's the second time my car will need that motor. The first one failled in 2002 (without any warning, so suddently I have a Benz without A/C in the middle of the portuguese summer), this one still works. I will wait untill I get tired from the noise or it faills completely.
Prices for this aren't expensive : the motor costs more or less 200 € and the assembly isn't more than 30 minutes.

thanks "CDI" i will look into that. just seems if it were a blower issue, it would be apparent regardless of the situation ie: Hood open, air recirculator. Additionally my A/C blows cold and i have 73k mi on car.
