So...just got a new (for me) 2002 E55 with 19,000 miles on it. Black on black. Excellent condition. Faactory stereo - no NAV. Car is great fun, but I have a few questions.....
1. How do you turn down the volume on the voice control system "ping"? It is jarringly loud and I cannot find anything anywhere.
2. A bit of research tells me to get the V60 bluetooth puck for the phone system to mate to my Blackberry. Might not get the phonebook downloaded, but it should give me handsfree access to the phone and automute of the stereo when answering a call, right?
3. Gotta get my Sirius back. This car predates the Mercedes-Sirius program. Looks like I have to either hack a cassette interface (who listens to cassettes anyway) and drop a Starmate into the ashtray (doable) or scrap all of the fetchingly cute MB integrated systems and go with a ready-for-Sirius head unit - maybe with NAV. Any other options that work with the factory radio head unit?
4. On that topic, can I add NAV to this system without scrapping everything in place?
5. Related, is there any reason to upgrade the Info Link (help link? help line?) system to digital? Never been a big fan of the concierge operator and not likely to use it. Appears I cannot use it after 2007 without an upgrade to digital. Can I scrap that controller and drop in a Sirius receiver? Would be too good to be true, but worth asking.
6. To save me from a third late night of reading and finding nothing on the internet - what is actually in this car from an audio point of view? COMAND? MCS? VCS? Manual for the car is remarkable in its 200 pages that tell how to change a tire but not what is actually in the car. I think it has a D2B fiber ring that connects all of the audio systems. Voice Control System. Cannot tell what COMAND is. Cannot tell what MCS is. Is there a primer on MB jargon and a layout by model and year?
Wow, only 19k miles. What did you have to throw down for it? I am closing on a 2002 as well, but it has 51k miles.
I have the same questions. While I don't really need Nav, I wouldn't mind having a topnotch deck. The AVIC looks like it has all the hookups, but I would also like one that has either a USB or SD card slot. Still, I think it might be the best we can get in a single DIN.
I prefer XM since they have the MLB contract.
Will keep you posted with what I come up with..please do the same!!

Thanks for any help or color you can give.
1. Hmmm, dunno mine isn't that loud, I will check tomorrow, have you checked settings?
2. I have the argos...no complaints, I use a Samsung I730 Mobile windows PC phone...no phone book download either.
5 If you get a bluetooth phone, I think you can program that number through your settings in the phone menu, it should call the number already programmed into the system if you get the V60puck or Argos. Which Would MB SOS folks.
6 No NAV then you do not have Command, DB2 Fiber optic loop yes. The MB Stock Command that came in the 00-02 W210 was Command 2.0 You probably do have the Bose system. Answer 3/4 will give you more info on using your Bose amp with the mentioned Alpine head unit.

But what is Command? D2B is the fiber ring system that the factory components use to talk to each other, right?
I don't have NAV installed, but could I get an OEM headunit with NAV, a double DIN cage as noted in the link you posted and put it in? The GPS antenna is there for the Info-Link system. Suppose I am over simplifying this, but cannot find any resources (other than here) to research this kind of thing.
On that topic, I have ordered the service manuals for the car on CD - hope to find some guidance there. Any places on the internet with good intel?
