Xenon Light unit - How long does it require replacement
Dear all,
I've replaced some headlight bulbs recently, as there was a "Lamp Defective" message on my dashboard. My mechanic told me that the wiring on my Xenon light unit is wearing out, and might cause danger if neglected. He suggest I replace the whole unit, which costs a fortune of almost US$ 1,700 just in parts. Did you guys experience something similar? Is that really critical to replace?
holy shizzle thats a lot of money!!!
you know you can buy HID kits for like 300 bucks these days??? i would investigate this yourself. tear into it and see EXACTLY whats wrong... did your bulb just burn out or...does it come on intermittently? from the factory, these things were wired pretty damn cleanly. if the wires are however "wearing out" i would replace them. HID kits run nearly 70K volts thru them.. you don't want that arcing ANYTHING in the engine bay, could be catatrophic.
Thanks for all your inputs. I'll try to take out the unit this weekend and see if it really needs replacement. The lights seems to work fine after I replace all the other bulbs and the "Lamp Defective" message is gone.
