I couldn't believe it, i go outside to go to dinner and 1 inch of snow fell in tucson AZ today (yes tuscon arizona lol). If you don't believe global warming isn't real and there aren't climate issues then u need to get your head checked .
anyways, the car actually performed much better than expected though it was still a bit scary at first. After putting the car in w mode and keeping rpms below 1500 the car actually was very managable in the snow. other than an occasional traction control kickin right off the line the car actually did very very well. Again showed these cars are good in almost any condition. With the car in "S" mode and no TC... forget it haha, couldn't even get the car moving.
it snowed this week here in Portland. I'm not about to take the E55 out in the snow though, too many crazy drivers around here. I saw multiple spin outs and wrecks on my bus ride, mostly people just going to plain fast for the amount of traction available...
I has Michelin Pilot sports lol. Believe me if i didn't have electronic aids i never would have got moving, goes to show you that sometimes its nice to have the driver aids. Yes I do, I have a carport but those were taken at my friends house.
i have driven mine thru 2 storms soo far. both with well over 4" of snow. but i live in MN... LOL...
my tires are at about 25%, so traction sucks for me... all i see the whole time driving it the damn ESP light blinking... even with it switched off, you can still hear the damn thing tickin away. engine cutting the timing too. its not fun at all driving this car. thank god i got my suburban rolling again (blew tranny).
Hi. I've only had my e55 since summer and I'm new to this site. After two days have barely read 20% of the e55 threads. Great info!
Good to hear that these cars do OK in snow. The manual doesn't recommend using chains on the 18s so I was thinking of picking up some factory 17s so I could make my bi-monthly ski trips. After spending the last months in the MB I just hate driving my F-250 4x4 w/tow package anymore because, well, it rides like a truck.
w/ snow tires & 17s it should do fine with traction control on and the car in "winter" mode which helps b/c car starts off in 2nd gear and has a lower revers gear as well that electronically engauges. 4wd is optimal but not necessarily necessary
Thinking about this more, a set of winter 17s all the way around will not work as I don't think they will clear the front calipers. Perhaps a spare pair of factory monoblock fronts, used on the rear, would work with cable chains in winter. Just thinking, that's all.
