I just got the x pipe and bends off Ebay and took them to Mandrel Bending Solutions here in Pasedena MD. They cut out the resonator and installed them in less than an hour. Even though I only had the car 2 days prior, I can definetely hear and feel the difference. Thanks for the great info and pics (took them to the shop with me) on the forum.
I have already discussed the pulley/header mod from AMS with Omey and will be doing that shortly - Omey, if you are reading you should see the order when I get paid Friday.
I have been driving an '87 300D Turbo for a long time and am having to re-learn right foot pressure lest I smoke these expensive rear tires in the first month of driving.......
sounds good, I have plenty in stock. glad you like the X-pipe, it really is a fantastic little mod.

I've been lurking in the W210 forum gathering research for a potential purchase and stumbled across this thread with a couple thoughts on the X-pipe.

These cross-over pipes have been known to yield significant improvements over stock exhausts that have balancing pipe (or H-pipe), or no balance at all. However, to yield maximum gains with X-pipe scavanging, the X must be located right at the manifold down pipe before the catalytic converters. V8 tuners out there have studied the setup and location for a while since the X-pipe was first discovered on NASCAR machines. Results on the dyno have proven the location prior to the cats and post-collectors is the best area of install.

Since the W210 E55 AMG has it's cats located on the down pipe right after the merge collector of the ports on each bank of the motor, there is no possibility of placing the X-pipe before the cats unless headers were used that remove the 'manifold catalytic converters' and were relocated after the installed x-pipe.

However, if the X-pipe was moved forward more to the downpipe bends on each side of the motor, instead of where the resonators were located, the rear-wheel horsepower may go up since the scavenging is occuring sooner. The resonator can be chopped off still and the piping redone. This should at least give something more than 5 HP on a dyno.

Performance Exhaust and some, would like advice (can't post new threads , -thanks! )

Are ther any reasonably price complete performance exhausts (minus cat converter ), if so, where,,, UK.

Or is this really a myth when your talking about a W210 E230 saloon car ??
advice would be a good read for me.

Oh, I checked out some acetone site ( about 3 fl oz = 65 litres ), noticable difference, power and mileage. A real awesome surprise!

Now SplitFires patented split V side electrode design is available with three separate points of platinum, substantially reducing electrode wear.

Whats more, the revolutionary platinum-tipped fine wire center electrode requires less voltage to fire. No other spark plug combines 3 platinum alloy points, the fine wire center electrode and the patented split V technology. No other spark plug provides more for the life of your vehicle engine!

I guess I'll try them out, unless someones blew their engine up on them..

So, any help will be appreciated, as I'm sure your aware, a 97 E230 Auto could use some additional pep, suggestions welcome [S Plugs coming / K&N air, already in / Acetone, doing pretty good ,,,,, really want advice on the worthiness of an exhaust £700.00 for an xtra 10%, forget it.

Anyone gone for one of these engine remapping, I'd like to know about that in a big way, been offered a pro job for £250.00.

No N.oxide, so I guess that's it for me ?

Please get over to my posy here (got to warn you, I'm pretty interested in this at the moment).

Hey, while I remember, I( put in some fully synthetic oil ), and personally I don't rate it, it may be great for a high revving 2 stroke, not sure about a 3-4000 rpm saloon.
Any good oil advice, I guess I would pick Castrol GTX, my reckoning that if it burns it's being used, unlike fully synth.

hope to hear from you soon,

Christ, I'm full of something, my steering wheel has almost half an inch play, 'should' this be fixed by
MERECEDES E CLASS 210 STEERING RACK HEAD/VALVE ?

apart from all that, she's a pretty car, must post a pic of the old pig sometime,

Cheers
John

I finally went out and had this done last week. I got the parts on ebay and had it done at a local muffler shop. It really does sound good, it is subtle in relaxed driving, yet gives a nice dull roar when slightly pushed. It adds an edge to the car, probably how it should have sounded from the start. For the money, certainly worth it.

From what I can tell, this same setup can be used on my 1999 E430, is this right? I've been dying to open up the exhaust on her and let her breathe a little better.

Yes this will work on E430 as well they have relatively the same exhaust setups although your mufflers are more restrictive. hope that helps

Got the parts of ebay as mentioned in the earlier post and had them installed on my E55 at HI tech muffler in North Hollywood. Sounds real nice, not to loud but just right....

Do it! It's the best low money mod that is best enjoyed after the ECU adjust to it. No loud muffler sounds just deep performance sound inside and out. A great mod and if done like factory it bends with the car on the floor. Oh it's only a little bit louder at 55 mph. you wont any notice unless you really pay attention.
