My wipers never come on automatically, even in hard rain. Is the sensor behind the windshield bad or what? I don't see how this sensor can work reliably anyway so I'm not surprised it doesn't work. Then again, maybe I'm just not doing something right. Ideas?

You need to position your wiper control on the multi-function stalk coming off your steering wheel column (on the left, where your turn signals are) to the I position for them to work as intended. Just rotate it toward the front of the car.
They are not totally automatic. If you have done this already, there must be some other problem, and I don't have a clue what that might be!
I think the sensor for these is in front of the rearview mirror, and it has something to do with the refraction of light through the windshield glass(?)
