3 seat belts with only 2 buckles on the rear seat of my 1999 E55 AMG

Hi there,

I'm new here. My dream has just came true and I've purchased a used 1999 Mercedes E55 AMG last week. Everything works find and the car drives like a dream! However, when I cleaned the rear seats, I've noticed that there's 3 seat belts on the rear seats, but only 2 buckles! I've seen a few E55 on eBay which is identical, but some have 3 seat belts with 3 buckles.

Can any experts here tell me what's going on, or I need to dig out the centre rear buckle.

Cheers,
Adam

Congratulation on your new ride & Welcome to the Board Adam! I believed your center buckles is underneath your seat, you need to remove your rear sit to get it. there is a latch on both sides, refer to your owners manual for removal instruction.

Take care & enjoy the ride,
JOE55

Hi JOE55,

Thanks for your help. I'll try to do that tonight. Your E55 looks very nice! Mine is a silver one too but before the face-lift. Here's a photo of my ride:

Cheers,
Adam

Is that parktronic I see? Didn't know they had that in 99. What does your car say on the Fenders? AMG

I think it's different in euro, he even got the folded side mirrors.

and that looks like a sport version not AMG?

They have the Parktronic system as early as 1997 in Hong Kong. Mine is the Avantgarde model. For the E-Class, they have 3 trim levels: Classic, Elegance, and Avantgarde. The Avantgarde is the sportier of the 3, with the car lowered. I guess in the States, they don't have this differentiation.

Cheers,
Adam

Hi JOE55,

I've found the 3rd rear seat belt buckle under the seat. Don't know how it got there. Thanks for your help!

Cheers,
Adam

Nice car exactly like mine on the outside

in 1997 we had all the goodies. folding/ heated mirrors, motorized rear blind, parktronic.

There is no difference in outward appearance on the lower half of the 1999 E55 US version and the 97-99 EURO version.

On the lower half the only difference is we dont have the turn indicators in our bumpers. of course in europe/asia they are mounted on the side.

The AMG versions of the W210 only came in 2 types. The most common type the one we both have.. Avantgarde and Designo. Came in 2 two colors violet with matching seat inserts and green with of course green seat inserts the first e50 i looked at was a green designo... ugly interior if you ask me so i went for standard avantgarde black/black.

I think what you guys are thinking of was the states version of the E420 Sport. The have the same lower kit as the 97-99 EUR and 99NA versions without the amg badge at the bottom of the front bumper. The 97 E420 didnt share any technical upgrades like the E50 E60 or E55.

Oh and someone went trough alot of trouble to put that steering wheel on the right hand ;-)

Nice E50 you've got there! E50 was quite rare. I think its only available in Europe. In 1997, we only got the E36 AMG imported to Hong Kong and not the E50. Does your car have Xenon headlamps?

Cheers,
Adam

the prevoius owner probably change the battery under the seat & forget to pull the seat belt out. Btw, you're welcome.

Take care & enjoy the ride,
JOE55
