I just moved my car up to Tucson (about 3000ft elevation) nad now the AMG feels like it has 50 less HP. I am thinking that my MAS (airflow sensor) has gone bad, Should I replace it? what do u guys think.
nope, haven't tried, i dunno if i have K&N filters or not even. never opened up the airbox. I can definitely give it a try. I got a brand new Air sensor for $95 so gonna try it if the cleaning is not that effective. I have a feeling maybe previous owner put in K&N's or something. ALso waiting for my OBD2 code reader so i can see what codes are in the ECU and clear all the codes.

hey omey, do you have check engine light? if not the O2 sensor is still good and check your filter element if it's clean.
ya no check engine yet but there may be stored codes, gonna wait till i get my OBD2 reader to see whats in the engine. I am going to replace my MAF and drop in K&N filters so hopefully that will fix alot of my issues. I figured since i am opening up the airbox i might as well get the K&Ns ($75 shipped). I'll let u know once i figure it out.
i've done it many times on BMWs, since i get a new one for so cheap i will just use the new one, dunno how old my other one is, over time even if you clean them regularly they still go bad. Cleaning can only prolong its lifespan but it will still eventually give out and go out of spec. Gonna clean the stock one and put it on ebay for like $50 see if i get any bites.
Just stay away from the stealership. They will rape you for $440 for a new OEM one. All you need is the sensor itself, not the housing, etc. If I wasn't in such a hurry, I wouldn't have paid that price.

Im sure many of you guys are knowledgable, but i thought i would throw in my 0.02.
the K&N filters are really crap. i have seen a ton of dyno comparisions to show that air flow is actually reduced! i know, i dunno why, but its wierd. from the sheer visuals, it seems that it can flow more... I run this filter in my truck and my bike. can't really tell a diff, but i use it since it is re-useable.
And those MAF's get filthy due to the oil from the filter. also, i think thats why flow is worse then stock when using a K&N. The oil tends to build up on the sensing wire, thus a false air flow meter...
again, just my thoughts...i have dealt with this issue in the past when i installed a Granetelli MAF in my truck, and it ran ok, but set off codes. threw the stock back in, ran worse, but due to too much oil build up. cleaned it up, viola, problem solved...
