hey guys, I know X-pipe is a common mod among the M5 guys and it really helps with teh power as well as sound. I was thinking if I am going to do resonator bypass I could do one along with an X-pipe in the system for improved flow characteristics as well as sound. what do you guys think?
Description:
Tru-X Pipe
2.25" Inlet I.D.,
Dual Inlet/Dual Outlet,
2.5" x 4" Center Core,
12" Length
Stamped Stainless Steel
"Stamped Y-Pipe and Tru-X Pipe transitions are great for single/dual, dual/dual and balance tube applications. MagnaFlow's stainless steel Tru-X crossover pipe represents a significant leap forward in technology over traditional H-pipes. The more gentle radius allows for better exhaust gas scavenging, noise cancellation and better balance between cylinder banks. The result is a significant increase in power and torque but a reduction in db sound levels... the best of both worlds."

after doing some research it seems X-pipes help add on avg of about 3-6HP/tq on the dyno (just from addition of X-pipe alone) so if those gains can be had for relatively cheap it seems like a worthwhile investment, don't u guys think? B/c after looking at the stock system i realized that the two exhaust tracts never intersect (which is bad for HP). what are your thoughts?
I did some more research on the x-pipe on stock exhaust setup and it seems to actually be a very popular upgrade among the M5 guys, and since the engines are of similar displacement and both european and etc it should do just the same for our cars. The M5 already has a stock H-pipe in place too where as the E55 does not even have that so the gains could be even greater. The M5 guys also pick up a few HP by eliminating stock resonator and also adding X-pipe. I may go ahead and take the plunge and do the X-pipe + resonator delete but i do not know how to put my car in dyno mode. any suggestions?
If you do this mod and can prove it helps, I will follow suit I know the Vette guys do this on their C5 and C6 cars. An H-pipe or X-pipe can't be a bad thing.

well X-pipe is even better than H-pipe, most american cars have H-pipes (though very poorly designed) are still better than nothing. The AMG cars do not even have an H-pipe, the two exhaust tracts never even merge. Thats why i think there could be a good power improvement. Not only does it improve gas scavenging affects but it also improves the overall sound quality. that plus resonator removal and stock exhaust should make a very nice mild performance sound thats quiet enough for regular driving but actually roars a bit at WOT. I guess I may be the first . Only problem is figuring out dyno mode... any suggestions?
theres no point, magnaflow makes a dual 2.25" X-pipe so i can still maintain factory pipe diameter but still improve air flow significantly with the X-pipe and resonator bypass. and it seems there should be enough room to do it. If someone has a good exhaust picture from underneath the car I will illustrate what I will do exactly (anyone have a good exhaust pic)?
