RE: looking to improve the quality of my sterio

The biggest improvement will come from an aftermarket headunit. I'd do the headunit and then the sub.

RE: looking to improve the quality of my sterio

I added two 12" subs in the rear with a Sony Amp. It really helped the stereo sound, but I would really like to replace the headunit, that makes the biggest difference.

The stock stereo has no bass at all. And they called it Bose. I expected better.

l-pagan,

I have '97 sl with factory bose. Would like new head unit. Is this a plug and play option or is an adapter required? Can I simply order the parts online?

Thanks in advance

To the OP.

I have an aftermarket alpine headunit (an adaptor was required) with ipod connectivity and an eclipse 12 in the trunk. I have the mercedes rubber mat in the trunk so the box is screwed into the mat at four points. It doesn't move and best yes, the decklid does not rattle at all. I think you'll be very happy with a sub.
good luck.

JL Audio with Factory CD Unit

I have a JL Audio 12W6 & JL 500/1 mono amp hooked up to the factory CD unit. I wanted to retain the factory steering wheel control and factory CD changer. It sould great. The JL audio amp have a remote Bass control which is mounted in the ash tray. Lot of Bass.

The amp also have Hi level input so I cut off one end of the RCA cable and solder the wires to the rear RS speaker from inside the trunk. It a Mono amp so i don't care about R or L input. The sound in the cab area are clear and the Bass are awersome

Later I will have the stereo shop build me a amp rack that fit inside right side pocket area and the subwoofer enclosure in the left side pocket and relocate the factory CD changer, the two box will flush with the trunk. These two area are dead space which I don't use for anything. That way i cna utilized the trunk space and access the spare tire if needed.
