I was looking into getting the lips of my wheels polished in order to get rid of some curb rash, and the wheel refinisher suggested doing a full polish of the wheels. That is - remove the paint in the centers and fully polish the entire aluminum wheel.
Probably look like something between the chrome Monoblocks and the painted Monoblocks. Anybody ever seen this done ?
if you do get them polished, see if they can clearcoat them as well, or go to a body shop and have them clear'd. the upkeep on polished aluminum wheels will make you go insane

I totally agree on 45acp, make sure you have the shop clearcoat it, otherwise its hard to maintain it.

Did The Mono Blocks on my W210 Estate..They look great
that was five years ago..still look like new..
Mercedes has a TSB NOT to chrome plate any rims..
The process Weakens the wheel..(Acid Dip)
Mag Masters in Santa Ana Ca did my AMG rims
And When You get curb rash..Its a Easy reapir..Not like chrome plate
Thanks Mark - could you possibly post some pics ? I have never seen the polished Monoblocks, but imagine they look sweet - subtle, but still a little different.
Insofar as maintenance, the guys at the shop I'm talking to here in the Bay area say they do it all the time and they turn out, and hold up great. They do suggest a good coat of wax, and stay away from chemical wheel cleaners.

I've seen it, on the great W126 forum.

There is a shop in Bay area which does wheel polishing. It is called Wheel techniques in San Jose by Trimble/Laurelwood and 101. You can go there to see the samples. I thought about doing it but I already have my new tires mounted and I don't want to take them off. It definitely looks better than painted and more subtle than Chrome. The shop suggested that we should leave the rim without coating so it is easier to do a repolish any time. I think waxing it is a very good way to protect it also. The cost is roughly $200 per rim for a full polish but you can also polish the rim only or polish the center and the front part of the rim.
