I usually ask if the chip sellers will guarantee their results. Dyno your car before the chip so you have a baseline. Before ordering, tell the seller that you will pay for the product if it does what they promise and if not you will ask for a refund plus the cost of install and shipping. They will usually bump down the guaranteed increase to around 5 or 6 hp from their previous claim.
Cars that benefit most from chip tuning are turbocharged cars and not normally aspirated engines. Good luck either way but these guys are usually selling snake oil at a very high price. Save your money for a Kleeman supercharger, HPS supercharger, or a set of headers. That's the only way you are going to see real increases.
