Forgive me if this has been previously covered, but the (US spec) E55 (W210) and the CLK55 (W208) appear to have the same block, pistons, crank, rods, heads, and cams. I still have to install my parts CD to confirm those part numbers. However, according to the 2001 press kit, the E55 produces 7 HP and 15 ft-lbs. of torque more than the CLK55 (349 HP versus 342, and 391 ft-lbs versus 376). The main difference I saw was the 2001 E55 uses the Motronic 2.0 system, versus the 2001 CLK55, which uses the later 2.8 system. I thought that was very odd. Why the two different FI systems for the same engine? But then things got more confusing. Do my eyes deceive me or does the E55 really have a different intake manifold and DUAL throttle bodies, versus the CLK55, which has a single??? Then I looked at the 2002 press kit. For the 2002 model year, the E55 uses the newer Motronic 2.8, but it still has the different intake. Anyone know the reason for the differences? Is this true for all W208 bodied AMGs, or do the euro models have dual TB’s? Thanks

are you sure it's motronic 2.8? I thought that was for v6 engines?
Its the same engine block/head ... Mounting points are different. but internally they are the same. They both hace
They both have a single throttle body and the airbox/intake is the same.
The power difference came from marketing. the exhaust is different and they dulled down the CLK so it wouldnt cut in to E sales as CLKs were slightly cheaper. Scoff at that if you want but look at the difference between the E and the CLK even now. Huge difference in power.
