I am new to this forum and an owner of a 01 e55 amg.
I plan on moving in the near future from Washington to So. California and then to Oklahoma. A number of people told me that I shouldn't drive my car over this long of a distance because AMG engines are not made for long drives.
The AMG engine is fine for long drives. Our non-pressurized engines should be capable of 200,000 miles quite easily.
True race engines don't do well at sustained legal highway speeds since the induction is oriented to lots of fuel for wide open throttle. Driving at legal speeds for extended periods tends to result in fouled plugs and gas washing down the cylinders (kind of like an old choke used to do) It's irrelevant to street engines. AS
I drove my AMG 2500+ miles (round trip AZ to WA) and the E loved it. Ran like a steam locomotive with occasional brursts of over-the-posted-speed-limit runs... YEEEHAAAAAA! Try it, you'll like it.
