I am the new comer from Taiwan.
I own an AMG E50(98),
even through it's an used car..in Taiwan it's still expansive....:(
I know the e50 with DOHV, NA, 347 hp engine..
comparing with e55 with SHOV, NA, 354 hp..
which one is faster?...
The E55 is quicker. I think both are limited to around 155 from the factory but the E55 would get there quicker too. Mercedes rates the E55 around 0.6 seconds quicker to 60 mph than the E50. That's a big difference on the street. It's the greater torque on the E55 of around 390 lb-ft to the E50's 357 lb-ft that gives it much better acceleration.
Dear SEC
thank you for your prompt reply,
anyway, e50 still a good car..
but I still considering the supercharge on it
the price ic high...how about the superchip?
I mean is the superchips worth or not?
Hi! I have an E50 AMG myself. The differences between E50 and E 55 are just 7 bhp more for the E55.
However the old V8 is better and stronger than the new one. Furtermore the E50 is more rare than the E55. Top speed is the same for both and 0-100km/h is 5.4sec. for E55 and 5.9 for E50.
Hi, l also have a E50 AMG, if you check a previous posting called " E50 1/4 mile times" you will see a little more of the car.
l have had powerchip re-map the car, installed a K&N air filter and opened up the exhaust a little. The car does 0 to 60mph in 4.9sec and the best 1/4 mile time l have had was 13.6sec and that has with a full tank of petrol. My car leaves any non supercharged E55 for dead, even the ones that have been re-maped, and even gives the new ones a run for there money. l have heared so much talk about E55 being faster than E50 but what l do know is, that when the flag drops the bullshit stops. Good luck with your new car...

That's considerably faster than a stock E50 but still not as fast as what an E55 will run. I'd imagine that if you are beat an E55 their MAF was bad, they had crappy tires and got no traction, or they just were not experienced in drag racing. However, yes, in a race, a slower car can win against a faster car given different conditions and the driver's skill level.

l think it is funny, how so many of you make statments about the E50 AMG as if you are some sort of expert, l would bet that most of you have never heard of an E50 let alone seen one. Maybe you should actually listen to the limited few who actually have one, and can speak from experiance. Try having a look at "dragtimes.com" at a real 1/4 mile time, and not some arm chair no it all bull shit. Well thats my 5c worth. Enjoy your cars.....
As far as I've seen the difference is not even noticeable but given the choice i'd either take an E50 or the even rarer E60 (perhaps even an E36). E55's are great cars but they are also a dime a dozen. Till now i've only been a passenger in an E50, but it has MAJOR potential (as does the 55).
