I had a 93 500E-what a great car! Luckily I sold it to a great friend who has it to this day. I tell you, I regret selling it. That car is so beautiful it literally makes me sick. If I still had it I would send it to AMG and have them tweek it up....
Just beautiful.
I have a 01 E55 and it's great, but just really no comparison as far as elite. People would pull up to me in the 500 and just gawk!
The 124 e500 is a great car my uncle had one but compared to a 210 e55 the older e500 is not even in the same class.
Comparing these two cars is like comparing a 90's era super bike to a 8 years newer super bike that handles alot better, bigger engine with more hp and torque, runs faster, and has way better brakes.
With this said the 124 e55 with its flared wheel wells was a cool looking MB sedan that ran hard on the freeway.

There is no question about that W210 E 55AMG is way far superior in terms of its performance, design, and overall aspects of vehicle since it is a new model.
Of course, I will choose new E55 AMG as far as my situation($) meets my demand(desire).
I love AMG products, too.
At the same time, however, W124 E500 was the collaboration between Mercedes-Benz and Porsche back in the days as you may already know.
How many of you think this kind of joint engineering of two greatest automobile manufactures will happen again? (obviously, there was a joint between Porsche and Volkswagen for Cayenne and Touareg. But, that’s different story)
I do not know.
So, I think maybe about 20 to 30 years from now W124 E500 will hold more value as a collectible car.[:)]
