99 E320, 38,000 miles. Replaced fluid and filter. Talked with tech who said, he recommends the service and would not rely on the "lifetime" concept. He said that the fluid looked fine, a little off color but not burnt etc. He recommended bringing it back every 30k miles to replace fluid only, (a quick and inexpensive service) and every 60k for fluid and filter.
Strange to me as well. I will be following up on this. The entire service was quite, lets say unique with them forgetting to charge me for the brake pads as well...
So this is what the bill says that they did: "Replaced filter and pan gasket, replaced orings on electrical connector as they were seeping. Refilled fluid. In the parts portion of the bill, no filter shows up (ala brakes?) and only 2 quarts of fluid?? The fluid they used was 001-989-21-03-10 at $8.80 per unit. I called the parts department back, independant of my service, and asked them the part number for the fluid I should use on my 99 E320 and they confirmed this number. I have no idea where 2 units of fluid came from, my guess is that they just made up the number?
Total cost for the trans service, $151 labor and the remaining for parts and fluid bringing the total to $201.
Well...That the same fluid pn that I use, but my stealer charges $9.60/liter.
If the only thing that dealer is forgeting is to charge you for parts then your lucky. I had an engine cradle and rack & pinion replaced and my dealer (Hammersely) forgot to drive one of the cradle bolts in all the way (left it out 3/4" f-up the allignment) and did not tighten the bolt on the stearing shaft coupler (wondered why there was so much play). An indy alignment shop figured this out on the third visit.
The O rings on the electrical connector they replaced; if these are the ones that allow trans fluid into the TCU you might want to check the TCU for fluid.
