My mother has her 2000 E55 at the dealer in Tacoma Washington due to a "ticking" comming from the motor when it is revved off idle. The dealer has replaced the lifters, but they still cannot fix the "ticking." They have also replaced the cats. I have no idea how the two of these are related- but recieving information from my not so car saavy mother by phone accross the country doesn't help me much.
Does anyone have any ideas what this problem might be? Is the dealer as clueless as I think they are?
I have a 2001 E55 with 26k miles. A few months ago I start hearing some low tapping noise when the car is idle or when I am strolling slowly around town. I took it to the dealer and they said the valve train has some problem and it took them a few days to replace some part of the valve assy. I cannot find my invoice (covered under warranty) so I cannot tell you what was changed. It is either the lifter or the cam. I was surprised that the valves have this type of problem so early. After that I have thoughts of buying extended warranty. If the problem still there, I would suggest take it to the dealer until they fixed it.
