Any corvette coolie who comes on an 210 e55 forum and says while weaving in and out of traffic he hunted down and killed a 211 e55 driven by both a woman and a man... is most likely the same person that tells his 14 year old daugther to not smoke at the dinner table in front of her two kids.

On the open road course, the C5 Z06es are formidable track beasts. The German car drivers hate the Chevys. There's no denying the Vette's performance. The C6 is the price-to-performance bargain of the millenium. Snicker if you want, but 400 hp/400 lb.ft torque, serious brakes and suspension, in a <3200 lb sports car for $45K? The Vette owner with change left in his pocket might be the one snickering--especially after he's lapped you on the track...
I don't disagree with the bang for the $ of a C6 considering its race track prowless.
However, this thread began with some corvette guy who thinks he is a poet claiming a street kill victory in busy traffic over an e55, it had nothing to do with what a C6 could or would do to an e55 on the race track.
Comparing these two vehicles is like comparing a great red wine to tequila, other then they both will eventually get you drunk... they don't have much in common.
The common denominator is both are "relatively" expensive. The discriminating buyer will get the E55; the guy who wants his money to go farther with respect to peformance, will get the C6. Simple.
Unfortunately, the C6 is destined to be more GM junk. It will be a worn out rattle trap within 50K. If they would put as much effort into the overall fit, finish, and long term reliability of the complete car as they do the engine, that would be a nice car, worthy of long term ownership. Just as unfortunate would be that the cost would then be more than the cost of an AMG. At least they're finally headed in the right direction.

I think my 2000 E55 is german junk... It's got 50k miles and it's a rattle trap. I have friends with Z06es, one has over 100k miles and it's in great shape. No matter how much money I throw at my POS it still has problems. I just wish I could figure out why it has so many random electronics problems.

That being said, I still love the Benz.
Sorry to hear that. My 55 is as tight as it was brand new. I've never had anything from the Big 3 that was even remotely "tight" after 50K. The C6 IS a big improvement for GM, but not worthy of the 60K+ asking price. I'm not a Ford fan, but a Cobra is a much better value.
I have a daily-driven Saturn SL2 with 145K miles that's pretty tight for a '94 GM product. With gas prices at $2.50/gallon for 87 octane, I'm thankful for that little Saturn that can LOL [8D]
