Most corvette owners I know are older, more mature people that like to have fast, good-looking cars. My father had a '67 (i think) with factory side pipes when he was growing up.[:D]
I'm not too keen on the new design though.

Vote Democrat, its easier than thinking.
Buy a gun, piss off a liberal.
Guys the corvette is not such a bad car once you get over the build quality and pathetic handling. In a straight line it is fun, and noone can deny that.
But if I EVER had to choose, you know I'd kick that peice of fibreglass to the side and sit in a real car,... something with a 3 pointed star on it, even a Vito van!
Apparently there are enough arrogant Vette drivers to dnet the reputation. A 210 E55 isnt much slower than a 211 in the quarter, its 0-60 is a second behind, but will still beat a Vette whose driver dosnt know exactly what hes doing on the shifter. Car and Driver, man, they must have trick test equipment, an SL600 that goes 3.6 0-60 and a Z06 in 4.0? 4500lb+500hp doesnt=3.6 seconds.

No, but, 590 lb-ft of torque will. Horsepower doesn't accelerate a car, it's the torque that does the work. It's well documented that the S600 4 door can reach 0-60 in 3.2 seconds and the 1/4 mile in the mid 11's on drag radials so if the tire is sticky enough it can be done.
I have had 4 MBs and 3 Corvettes. I had a Z06 for 2.5 years before I got my current E55. A stock Z06 will flat out-handle ANY stock MB model, no contest. The Z06 is facory race car. It is brutally fast. My W210 is not as fast in a straight line. A W211 E55 is. In the 1/4 mile the E55K can hammer out consistant low ETs, while the (average or above) Z06 driver has to have PERFECT speed shifts to do the same. If I were into dragracing, the E55K would be the best choice for ease-of-use.
But let's remember, we're talking 4-door sedan vs 2-door sports car, $50K vs $95K...etc. This same comparo comes up from time to time about Porsches and E55Ks. At least there the $$$ are a lot closer. As far as design and looks, that is always subjective. Remember; some folks think Chris Bangle is a good automotive designer.

You are right, but with the stock setup the tires just spin. Even Brabus only quotes 4.2 for the SL SV12, which is fitted with rear 305 series tires.
Handling to the limit of adhesion makes for an unsafe car. Maybe that is why there have been more deaths in corvettes than in any other automobile in history. Ferdinand Porsche designed the 911 to be a long distance endurance sports car. You can run a 911 full throttle from San Francisco to the tip of South America, roads permitting, without stopping for anything save fuel and a toilet. A 'vette running at full-throttle from San Francisco would make it to maybe Fresno before it would blow its innards all over its own hood. It is short sighted to compare a 911 unfavorably to a corvette, however backhanded the attempt may be. I have had several corvettes, ranging from an old school big block to a twin turbo callaway to a Z06. They are great cars in their own right, great bang for the buck. But well balanced race cars they are not. The performance figures posted in magazines do not tell the whole story. The mere fact that corvette owners are starting to realize that there now exists showroom-stock luxurious four-door grocery-getting family sedans roaming the freeways that can easily blow them away in contests of speed makes them as insecure as grandpa without his viagra. The audacity of the corvette owner posting on this site is proof of that. Don't worry too much though, at least I'll spare all of you the super cheesy rhyming song lyrics about my car stomping on some corvette.

I agree. I have a bone stock w210 E55 amg with 50,000 miles on it and I raced a z28 with a tricked out 350. He ran a 12.2 and I ran a 13 flat here in Arizona. My car has over 100 less HP than the new E55s. Did I mention my HP was wayyyyyy less than that of the z28 I raced... He was close to 500. All I can say is if you have an E55 use it !!!!!!!!!!!!! By all means. So we can avoid these talks with much slower cars. The person driving the AMG up against the vette should have saved their money and bought a E320 (LOL). Use half the power get half the car. Thats my 2 cents worth.
Funny Story, a lady in the E55 Racing a corvette...
Just makes me laugh...now how about you put your familly of well lets say four not even five..into your corvette...and we jump that same road, i bet my friend you'll be in the first ditch...the car just has no handling...are you kidding me, how can you even compare..even race track wont match the handling
I saw someone comparing a Z06 to a 911TT, what were they smoking? the Z06 has twice the displacement of the 911, and not even the same power, its still 15 hp down. Isnt that sad?
