No replies? Maybe the W210 E55s are not very reliable, and the owners don't want to tell you that? Maybe the current W210 E55 owners didn't know what you meant by "relaidability"? From what I've gathered so far, there are problems with Mass Air Flow sensors, catalytic converters clogging, air filters clogging, air conditioning evaporators going bad, lower control arms going bad, rust in the doors, and other places that are hard-to-find, cracked dashboard near the steering wheel--and that's just off the top of my head--and I just joined this forum today. I too am looking for a W210 E55 AMG, but may go back to looking for a 2001 BMW M5? Good luck with your search. I hope someeone will reply to your post for help.[8D]
Actually, the reliability is pretty good. That list is inclusive of all W210's, and they've been around a long time. I've had 2 different 210's, an E430 (supercharged of course), and my 55. The only item from the "list", was the fuel tank sending unit on the E430 (warranty of course). The 55 has had 1 clunky motor mount replaced (also warranty). The fuel tank sensor would have been about $90.00, the motor mount $300.00. Considering the number of W210's and the total miles driven, it's not a big deal.
F55 is right... 210 e55 is overall very reliable and fun to drive. I bet more reliable then a same year, same miles M5, but that is just my opinion.
I like the 2000 e55 since it is 5 years old the depreciation is more then an 01 or 02 thus a lower price.
The 210 e55 does continue to depreciate but so does any luxo hot rod german car, you don't buy an e55 as an investment... you buy one because for the money you get an incredible car!

Check other pages in the W210 E55 forum, there should be some threads about this already.
I spent some time on the boards myself looking for the same answers. I went with an '01 E55. From what I gathered, the W210 is a VERY reliable car, especially the '00-up cars. Just make sure you find one that was well taken care of (with service records if possible) and not in any accidents. I've had mine for about 3 weeks now with no problems, and it's used as my daily driver here in pothole central NY.
I've had mine since August '03 (Starmark) and had nothing but a very positive experience. I've driven to Seattle and back and lots of trips to CA and Las Vegas. Superb road rocket, and MUCH faster than most people think! The MAF was replaced (at 34K miles, under warranty) and the difference in performance is astounding. I went from a Z06 (too much police "attention") to the AMG so I could go fast but not draw too much notice. A nice, gray 4-door blends in really well. I've now got 44K miles on the E55, and the M-B warranty goes until 1/08 and 100K miles. Great car, great coverage.
The 2001 M5 is $4000 more for the same year and mileage than a 2001 W210 E55.
Although the Benz is an automatic, I was planning to use the E55 as a luxo-cruiser for long road trips.
My E36 M3/4 is for sporty driving and occasional opentrack.
Those replacement items you mentioned were replaced under your warranty. I would be buying a 2001 E55, and will likely have an expired factory warranty. How do you find a 2001 E55 with extended warranty coverage to 2008 and 100K miles?
Anyone know why the 2001 is the lightest W210 E55?
