I've got a case of dull headlight lens' on my new-to-me 1997 E320. I've read on the forum how you can remove the lens' and polish them, but no one has posted details on exactly how to get the lens off. It sounds like you need to remove the light assembly - is this difficult? How do the lens' actually come off from there? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have done this before and tried many different things. The yellow haze is usually pretty thick and won't come off with the typical plastic polishes. This is what worked for me. First wet sand the headlights with soapy water using 800, then 1200 grit sandpaper. Periodically put wet the lens to see if you've removed the yellow haze. Next tape the painted surrounds of the lenses with masking tape. Next, using a rotary buffer, buff the lens with 3m rubbing compound. After, buff with a polish like 3p perfect-it. If the lenses are not heavily pitted, they will come out very clear. If you don't have a buffer or know how to use one, as someone from a detail shop to buff it for you. This job is simple to do but requires a lot of labor and patience.
Oh - keep in mind that you can do the entire job with the headlights on the car.
