I am about to purchase an E430 4 matic from a local dealer in NJ. the car is a 2001 w/ 33,000 miles on it.
it is a starmark car. the dealer put new tires on it, changed the oil, new front pads and a couple of minor other things. the car will have factory warranty until next sept 04 and then one yr of starmark warranty.
couple of questions for anyone who would like to answer -
1) I have heard something about trunk rust or galvanizing, do you know what production numbers that effects
2) should i buy 3 more years of starmark warranty for 1750?
3) this will be the first mercedes i will ever own. is there anything about the car i should know that the dealer wont tell me?
4) should i let the car's computer tell me when to change the oil or should i change it more frequently? if so , what brand viscosity should i use. the car will be driven a mix of highway and town driving perhaps 10k a year.

1. i haven't a clue about that. i'm sure if there isn't any rust you can get protectant put on. also, any rust or galvanising will be covered by the rust warranty. i think it 10 years??
2. yes, you never know who a used car has been treated. but, it is ultimately up to you. can you purchase at any time before the warranty runs out or is it at this time only? if you start seeing some problems while under warranty, you may want to consider the extra 3 years.
3. not that i am aware of. what has the dealer told you?
4. the computer moniters driving style and mileage and the oil itself. it adjusts for these and many other factors.
if you want to do it yourself, you'll need about 10qts of a 10w-30 synthetic. mercedes recommends and uses mobil1. i can't disagree with them. it will be expensive for 10qts of that oil. also, get a filter from mercedes or use a mobil filter.
