Changing transmission fluid

I have a question on my 2000 E430. Do I have to have it service meaning changing the transmission fluid, I was thinking it was a lifetime fluid in there where by you don't need to change it. Please advise.[?][?]

It's supposed to be a lifetime fluid but several mechanics I know recommend changing it (and the differential fluid) at 60K. I guess it's a matter of choice but I went with better safe than sorry and had it changed.

I Worked for Mercedes and have Seen my fair share of Expired (Late Model)Transmissions ..JUST out of Warranty..COOKED!Burned Fluid.
With NO Help from Mercedes!Lifetime Fluid...Ahh NO!

I Change My Fluid at 30k
Please drain the torque converter and replace the filter ..dont forget to replace the Drain plug crush washers on the Converter and trans pan....Order the tamper proof plug for the filler tube..Little RED Insert.
PLEASE use only the MB fluid
You will need a Dipstick..Since the car does Not have one..And Check fluid level..HOT

Would my 97' E320 also be the "lifetime" ATF? I just turned 100k miles on it this week.

Mine had 100K on it when I changed it. Previous owners had not changed it. As a precaution I had a fluid analysis done by blackstone labs. Conclusion... fluid was well past it's prime, analysis indicated fluid should be changed at Least every 50K miles, contaminates were high. IMHO there is NO transmission made with a "lifetime" fill. Note that automatic transmissions designed for long life (500K-1M+ miles) and extended drain intervals have very large sumps, internal AND external filters, with the external filter usually being changed at least every 25K miles.
