I've been told this is a programmable feature in the car's computer. I think it is the "Norway" setting, however, this setting also changes some other features of the car. Someone else on here may have more detailed info.

The dealer also said the alarm will not sound either on this "99 benz. However he did say that after 30 seconds the alarm is automatically activated if you forget to turn it on??? When I'm washing the car, I sometimes leave the car unlocked and I don't recall the alarm being activated. Maybe it's after I drive the car, get out and then close the door that the timer starts. Oh well. Not a big deal.
I guess I could by my own alarm system that chirps.

[:D]I found the alarm/central lock on my E-class sometimes automatically activates when I wash my car or spent too long "admiring" it - thank god I've not left the keys inside! But not sure if its after I've moved the car.
Certainly a pain in the butt not being able to hear your alarm chirp in a crowded or multistorey parking lot, especially in a city where Mercs and BMW's seem to be the only cars available!
