I just recently purchased a 2000 E320 sedan. I noticed a noise coming from the front of the car. At first, I thought it was the wheels that were out of balance or had flat spots since the noise increased as I increase my speed. It is more of a oscillating noise that has a tempo to it.. Anyway, the dealer mentioned that this noise is an inheret problem in all E320 cars from 1999 - 2002. Has anyone heard of this? They replaced the motor and tranny mounts in order to reduce the sound, but it didn't work. I'm just hoping some has dealt with this problem.
On my '96, there is a piece of black plastic that is supposed to be pressed flat against the bottom of the windshield. At speeds of 50+, this would start a nasty vibration. All it took was a little shim (felt) I think... To see if that's your problem, just wedge a piece of paper in there or something and get it up to speed and see if it stops. If that's it, just put something black in between the windshield and the plastic and hopefullt it will cure the problem.

Had same thing too. But somewhere on the internet,
i've read that mid-99 was new part phased in, this
piece of plastic that actually touch the windshield is
modified and coated with rubber. Also mounts are
somewhat modified. Got the new parts (~$20 for left
and right side) installed them...no more noise.
Since gmata mentioned that his car is MY2000, i think
that it should already have the new "silent" plastics.
Externally you can distinguish them by series of
slots in the new part (perhaps to get the air
circulated better in that area?)
