I took my 1998 E430 for servicing as a result of the illumination of the SRS warming light. The air bag off light located on the console also came on. The service manager communicated to me that the smart seat sensor was faulty and presented me with a $400.00 estimate to repair the sensor. I do not own the smart seat nor would I place one of my childern in the front seat with the smart seat. The feature provides me with no value. Can the sensor be disconnected without having the SRS warning light and air bag off light continually on?

You should probably invesitigate the cost changing out the switch yourself before disconnecting it. Disconnecting it could open yourself to a future lawsuit should someone borrow your car or you sell it and forget to tell them about the disconnection.
