I have the older OM606 motor, so take my comments with a grain of salt.
On older systems, the symptom you mention is the way that the glow plug controller signals that one or more of the glow plugs is out of spec. I doubt that this function has changed on the CDIs. Also I don't think that glow system problems are passed onto the OBD system, so you won't see any check engine messages.
THIS IS DEFFINATELY BECAUSE OF ONE OF YOUR GLOW PLUGS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. ME OLD MAN HAS A SPRINTER AND HAS THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE GLOW LIGHT AFTER I CHANGED THE 4 GLOW PLUGS IT WAS OKAY.

Check the glowplugs, and the glowplug circuit. You could have 1 out of 6 bad sending the light on, but your car probably starts and functions fine with most of them working, or it hasn't gotten that cold there. Any updates, did you get it fixed?

with the 320CDI (and probably all other CDI's), you don't HAVE to pre-heat the engine before starting.
You can just get in the car, put the key in, and turn it over.
It's a socalled 'fastglow system'.
