I just bought a CD Changer and mounting bracket for my 1997 E320. The changer is from a 1998 ML but is NOT fiber optic. I called Mercedes they said the part number for my changer should be 0028205989, I then asked the part number for an ML...same part.
Anyone else had any issues with installing CD Changers from other models?
Also my car is NOT pre-wired...any idea how much that will set me back and how I can get it done?
I dont understand why Changers are not standard in Mercedes...and I dont understand why a 6 CD Changer should cost 1000 dollars if you buy from Mercedes.
Although they didn't use fiberoptic up to 1998, they still made different cd changers.
You can get the changer a lot cheaper from AutoClass.net or GermanStar.net
As for not being prewired, it won't set you back much.
The most expensive and only piece you will need is the wire that goes from the head unit to the rear (or a location of your preference)
Simply plug & play after that. The plug of the wire goes only one way so I'm sure you won't confuse it for something else. The highest socket on the radio is the changer input.
Wonder why yours is not wired. I thought they pre-wired all MBs above 95. If it is, it should be in the trunk, right side under the panel.
