New to the forum and Mercedes...Please help!!!

HELP!!Thinking about buying an e430 sport...What do you think?
I have been shopping around for a new car for the past couple of months. I test drove the 2002 E430 Sport Pkg last weekend and really liked the performance and styling. Since I have never owned a Mercedes before, I would like to know what the Mercedes-Benz enthuiasists think of this car. I can get a really good deal on it since they are getting rid of thier 2002's preparing for the arrival on the new 2003's.
The dealer would sell me the car for $55,869 with the following options: E430, Sports Pkg, Power Sunshade, E1, E2, and E3 Value added Packages, Multicontour seats. The MSRP is $62,215.

Should i wait for the 2003 or is this a great deal. So far, i think i still like the look of the 2002 better than the '03.

Appreciate your help!
Re: New to the forum and Mercedes...Please help!!!

I have a 2000 E 430 4Matic and love it. Its a great car. But I've looked alot into the new E and that seems to be a far superior car to the current generation E. I am for sure going to get a 2005 E 500 4Matic.

Why are you buying a 2002??????

The new 2003 is coming out. The new one is going to smoke the old one, but the old one is still beautiful. They upgraded the E430 to a E500.

Re: New to the forum and Mercedes...Please help!!!

As I understand it, the 2003 E500 will cost way more than the 2002 E430,I know I want the V8 and I refuse to pay over 60K for it as I understand the new E500 will be $$$. I guess the point of my question was to see if anyone on the forum currently is driving an E430 with Sport Pkg and how has the experience been so far? I think the new E Class is sweet but not sure if it will be worth all the money for the V8.

I had a 98' E430 Sport...

I had a 1998 E430 Sport and I traded in for a 2002 E55 last fall. The E430 is an excellent car in performance and styling. The 2002 AMG body kit looks a whole lot better than the old AMG kit. You do know the Sport package on the E430 is only cosmetic and the suspensiion is stock, right? It is an excellent highway cruser and quite responsive in the city also. Quality wise, I say the 2002 E-class is better than my 1998 E430 and Mercedes just keep on improving it. This is why I wouldn't buy the first year E-class because with all those electronic gadgets I want Mercedes to tweak the E-class for couple of years before I considering ordering the new E55.

Have you test drive the car yet? Do so before you sign the check. Also I would see if the price will come down another $1000. I traded my E430 because I always wanted an E55 and I want the current E55 before it is discontinue.

John

Hello,

The E430 is a great car that combines efficiency, reliability and comfort with great performance. I live in Germany and drove the new E500 over a weekend(1000miles) and it is superior in handling(air suspension) and comfort(especially wind noise). The steering is almost BMW like and the brakes are phenomenal. The new E55 will have the engine from the SL55(476HP). However, I would wait one or two years before buying the new one because of quality glitches that usually occur with new cars. The new E-class seemed solid but I would wait nonetheless just to be sure.

Frank

Re: Frank, any idea on pricing for the 2003 E500?

I don't know the current conversion for Euros to American dollars(sorry), but the E500 starts here at about 55,000 Euros with standard 4-Zone climate control, Elegance package(Avantgarde free of charge) and other options. With leather, electric seats, heated seats , sunshades, navigation, etc. it can be 70,000 to 80,000(fully loaded with Keyless go, AMG stuff, etc.) E320 is about 15.000 Euros less, respectively.
I hope this helps. By the way, C32 Amg sportcoupe now officially on sale in Germany.

Buy it or pay premium for E500 plus Gas Guzzler Tax?

I gave you my opinion on MBWorld.com. The W211 E500 will be at sticker, no discount, maybe a gas guzzler tax (like S500). Use the savings and buy AMG Monoblocks in 18' and AMG muffler. Buy a W211 in 2005/2006 with new direct injection engines and after the mid model upgrades.

Re: New to the forum and Mercedes...Please help!!!

I have the same problem: buy now or in autumn. Price you can get a couple thousands less than invoice. However, most of dealers have very limited stock, so I can't find desirable options and color in my area. So I need to wait for 2003 model. I spoke to dealers and price should be the same as for e430 or a bit lower. Economy is not so good now, so putting higher price will mean suicide for Mercedes spending billions for the new model. I also consider Jaguar S-Type 2003 already available.
