Illuminated Door Sills

Anyone know how to install the illuminated door sills on a 2000 E320? How to remove existing sill? Wiring, etc.?

Re: Illuminated Door Sills

Just use a screw driver to pop out the sill and wire the light to the door switch

Re: Illuminated Door Sills

Are there wires underneath the door sill to tap into? And which wires go where (colors)?

Re: Illuminated Door Sills

There are bunch of wires there.
You have to take the door switch out
and figure it out.

Re: Illuminated Door Sills

Well, I finally installed the illuminated door sills and everything went well. For those of you thinking of doing the same, I powered the sills from the rear dome light. I then ran the power wires along the roof, down the rear pillars and down the rear seat sides to the door switches for the rear/front doors. Connect your ground wire from the sills to the striped wire connected to the door switch. If you're using a multimeter, you should read about 10volts on the striped line. The hardest part is taking off the panels but can easily be done once a little explanation is given.

Removing the sill plates?

To remove the existing OEM sill plates, gently lift one edge of the plate and slide a screwdriver underneath. Be careful not to scratch the paint (might consider wrapping with masking tape or thin cloth). The sill plates are held in place by 3 plastic (easily breakable) snaps/clips. If you're installing illuminated sills, you most likely won't need these clips so if you break them, it's not a big worry. Gently slide the screwdriver along the underside of the sill plates until you feel it hit against one of these clips, slowly push DOWNWARD on the screwdriver handle to pull the plastic clip away from the body frame. Slide screwdriver past 1st clip and continue onto 2nd and 3rd clip. If you need to know how to remove the floor panels to expose wiring and door switches, let me know. I can post another message.

Re: thanks for the detailed instruction ...

So do you need detailed on instructions on how to install an illuminated door sill set? If so, let me know your e-mail and I can send you a word document. it's a long winded description that won't fit on this forum.
