97' E320 transmission fluid change

I own a 97' E320 with 47,000 miles on the odometer. I took my car into the dealership for all scheduled maintenance service. I found out that the transmission fluid was never touched in those costly maintenance service. The mechanics told me that the transmission will never require any service for the life of the car. Is that true? Doe anyone know when to replace the transmission fluids on the 97 E320?
Thanks

Re: 97' E320 transmission fluid change

IMO, nothing last forever. I wonder why they say that it never requires to change transmission. Especially in city driving, eventually anything no matter how good it is will fail. That is facts of life. Ask your dealer how it is possible not to change.

:I recall reading somewhere, possibly STAR that life time sealed meant 100k and that fluid should be changed @ that time. Have you had problems with your 97 E320 shifting erractically meaning not smoothly, shifting for gears, clunking, etc.?
