E320 1997: Cell Phone is Bad for the Electronics??
My parents own a '97 e320 and I want to get them digital PCS cellphones for christmas.
However, I've heard that cellphones -- with the exception of the analog phone integrated into the car itself -- are not to be used inside the vehicle because they interfere with the cars' electronics.
Is this true? Is this true even with digital PCS?
Any information would be great.
Thanks.
You know how you're not allowed to use certain electronic devices (like cellular phones) in a commercial aircraft?
M-B is taking the same approach. The EMI from the phone can possible affect the electronic systems in the car. The chances are extremely low, but M-B is just covering their ass in case something fails and you crash your car and you try to them for it.
I know that most M-B drivers in Europe just use their regular non-MB phones.
BTW, The warning also helps MBUSA sell more of their rediculously overpriced phones.
Re: E320 1997: Cell Phone is Bad for the Electronics??
I've used an analog. digital, and a Sprint PCS in my '97 E420 without causing any damage. The only thing I have noticed is that just before the phone will ring with an incoming call, there is an interference heard through the speakers sort of like you are losing a radio station signal. The noise is not loud and only lasts a couple of seconds. I wouldn't worry about it.
