I have a 2001 E320. After signaling a turn the other day, my left turn signal is now constantly blinking. The turn signal arm/switch, itself seems to successfully stay in the uppper and lower position and the steering wheel still resets the switch position. In the center reset position though, the left turn signal still blinks. The right turn will work, but then back at center, it it signals left again.
I have been driving with my hazards on and then turning them off when signaling a turn.
A friend told me that it may be a relay. Any suggestions?
I believe your combination (turn) stalk switch has developed a problem.
The turn stalk switch provides electrical level signals to the EIS (Electronic Ignition Switch) module, 0 (sero) Volts for reset (middle) condition, 12 Volts for the left turn, and somewhere in between for the right turn. The EIS then send the signal to to the SAM (Signal Acquisition Module) and the SAM controls the turn marker lights as well as the hazard lights. Your hazard lights are working, the instrument cluster indicators are blinking, so your SAM is working OK. So the only thing I can think of is the the turn signal switch is supplying 12V (left turn) signal while the stalk in the middle position, and when moved up, the switch is providing right turn signal.
I am not sure whether the turn switch is serviceable, you may end up replacing the combination stalk.
The Rock Auto website would not allow me to link to each of the three options directly, but on this page are two options for Multi-Function Switch, and another called Turn Signal Switch.
Can someone advise of which I should order, or do you think it is necessary for me to have my mechanic take a look at the car first?
Also, if there is a different vendor you'd recommend instead of Rock Auto, I am open to that. I live in South FL and am hoping to place the order today with expedited shipping and have it installed before the end of the week.
If you are going to do it yourself, you can order locally, and if you determine the switch is not the problem you can return the part. You can get the confirmation from a mechanic if you prefer, and supply him the part to install.
