I was wondering if I could get a steering wheel airbag with a chrome MB emblem,
instead of the black one I have.
Would like it to be OEM and not a stick on, or add on with glue.
This is for my 1999 E320 4Matic.
Facelift models have the chrome emblem but not sure they would fit my 1999.
Anybody here done this, or found one that will work.?
Thanks.
Since my airbags have all expired anyway, I would like to replace the drivers airbag with a new one. Would like to end up with a chrome emblem in the process.
Nothing like getting hit in the face by a chrome emblem.:grin
There must be a chrome MB emblem out there, somewhere, that will fit my car.??
What do you think.??
Had nice day yesterday at Adventure Pa... khm... junk yard.
Found 1 W210 with the emblem, but it broke when I tried to remove it.
Than I found W211 with bag deployed and the emblem hanging on ripped plastic.
The plastic broke above the emblem, so the emblem did not fly.
The ring has several "rivets" that go via the plastic and are mushroom-melted on other side.
Meaning even if you have new emblem, you'd have to take airbag apart to do the job the factory does.
I cut off the emblem with piece of plastic from W211 so if you want to play with it, send me your mailing address?
The only option you have for the 90's W210's is to get one off a S600, Grand Edition W140, SL600... These cars have leather stitched dash, and the air bag is super rare, and is black stitched leather, yet not all S600's or SL600's have these. I found one on a SL500. It was a purchased option... Oh God whist a lovely view the steering wheel!
Had it on my S600 , now I'm looking for a chrome option for my E320 too.
Any idea what cars would have a similar diameter emblem!? (W203? 204?)
I just left the original in place and carefully masked around the whole circle.
Then refinished the airbag cover as usual.
THEN, i went back and removed the masking and with an ART BRUSH carefully filled in the three areas of the star.
Done, looks perfect and I avoided all the issues of removing and breaking, and replacing the star.

Thanks guys for all your input.
That steering wheel in post #6 with that chrome emblem on the airbag is exactly what I had in mind.
Probably impossible to find that airbag.
Would really like to see a picture of "paint job" on the airbag emblem.

Looks to me that the emblem is taken from pre-bag MB.
I have couple of such emblems. They look good, but you would not like one to shoot into your face with bag deployment. Pretty heavy and hard plastic.
