OBD2 scanner

Good day friends ! What would you suggest a good not too expensive, not too cheap OBD2 scanner both for European and Japanese made cars.

I believe I think, so therefore, I think I believe !

I bought one made by Actron for about $50 but people keep saying that Amazon is a good supplier for perfectly good ones at about $20.

There's lots of threads already on this; it all depends on what you want to accomplish. To me there is nothing more useful than a small hand-held device, plug it in, get your readings, clear codes if necessary, check readiness, etc. That's under $20 at Amazon (it was down to fifteen and change a couple of weeks ago): http://www.amazon.com/Autel-MaxiScan-MS300-Diagnostic-Vehicles/dp/B001LHVOVK/
If you want more, the interfaces to laptops and smartphones are a little more than that, but you have to have another piece of hardware; the tradeoff is you can do more, like gather live data.

For lots more you can also read and clear specific transmission codes through more complex interfaces.

Happy shopping, and good luck.

Still available for $12.99 and up: just click on the "15 new from $12.99" link in the description area on the amazon website.

I have the one Check Codes mentioned. Works perfectly on my E420. Clears the codes, too.

There is no substitute for and SDS diagnostic tool. Other scanners don't have half of the capability. Just saying.

One more gadget on the market is ScanGauge.
I bought it for $100 mainly for my Ford 6l that require constant monitoring, but this is pretty powerful tool that beside reading and erasing codes will read data available only by professional software.
I took it to scan my new purchased W211 and now drive with it observing how the ignition and mpg change with the load.
So many choices, so little time to use them
