Unhappy HELP!! Car shakes and vibrates when in Drive at IDLE

96 Mercedes E320
My car vibrates when in Drive and at IDLE, sometimes the rpm go up and down. It happens only in Drive, not in neutral or park

It has new bosch mass air flow sensor, new bosch oxygen sensors, new bosch spark plugs.

NO check engine light on, and I check with the tool, no codes at all.

Not sure what is causing it. any tips will be helpful

Your symptoms are the result of failed/collapsed engine mounts - see the stickies for replacement procedure - the MB OE mounts are Sachs/Boge/Lemfoerder - oft mentioned source is autohausaz.com - China made knockoff no-name/quasi-name chepaer but no good at all.

Keep the beat !

Since his engine RPM is also going up and down, it may be a non-mechanical issue ? I have something very similar with recent OEM engine mounts. The vibration is worst when the engine is warmed up and the control system drops the RPM from around 1000 to 780. I have taken it to a few places but I do not have an exact diagnosis yet. Everyone keeps telling me its Engine Mounts except the last place ( a dealer) who said the mounts were fine. I know that I just need to raise the RPM by 100 or so and the vibration goes away. I did try to have the RPM adjusted with the SDS but the engine control wants to adjust to back down to around 650 in gear when stopped. I will be trying another mechanic soon and if I discover something, I will publish it here.

No offense DIS - taking over another persons thread thread is called "hijacking" - please go back to your own thread - in your case thread(s)..

Sorry but that was not the intention, just providing my view of what I have experienced on the same issue. Perhaps new Motor mounts are the solution for him but were not for me. Anyway, no more posts in this thread from me ! I have no desire to "hijack" anyone's thread. .. why so sensitive ?

What I anm sensitive to is this - this is a new thread, and frankly 95% of the time based on the exact same sysmptoms listed - absence of any evidence of your "unsolvable" problem..

You Sir, I have no desire to argue with. Absolutely no intention to offend anyone on my part. If I offended unknowingly -- I am sorry for that as well.

Anyway, now just cheer up !

imho rpm fluctuating a lot doesn't point to bad mounts, but that doesn't mean you don;t have bad mounts so make sure you check them. also check the throttle wiring to see if it's intact or falling apart. mb used biodegradable wiring early 90's up to 95, and maybe you have an early version. common in late w124, and early w202 and w140 models. rough idle is most common symptom of a degrading throttle wiring. also check if throttle butterfly has any carbon buildup, if it does try cleaning it and see if that does anything.
