Welcome. Please click user cp and edit details to add your vehicle and location to your profile, that information can be useful when you're seeking assistance.

Which year of car? The spec changed with the M112 engine.

In any event, picking a brand is nonsensical.

The most important thing is to pick an oil that meets the MB spec for your car. The full spec sheet is linked in the stickies.

If you're in the states and have the M112 engine, the easiest spec oil to find is Mobil1 0W40.

Good luck.

IMHO...Mobil1.

For the avoidance of doubt, when answering posts I am referring to the W210 Mercedes...not the Renault12ts.

173,000 mi on my E 320, using Mobil 1 0w40 and fleece filters always. Meets MB specs (look at back of bottle of oil). I can't see any reason why I would switch brands, now!

And US MB dealers use 5W40 - go figure why they go off spec other than 5W40 is available in barrels and Mobil 1 0W40 is available in qts only.

I use 0W40 Mobil 1

really? 5w40 is for diesels, there are strong detergents in it to cleanse out unburned diesel deposits. i guess 0w40 should be good for gas.

mine are diesels so i use m1 5w40 with mann filter. changing oil in 6kmi intervals, and changing filter in every other oil change (i know some people may not agree with me on the oil change intervals, saying 10+kmi, but i don't feel comfortable with that long as oil is oil and will break down over extended time).

after decade of use my cars are still strong... maybe i did right?

Actually M1 0w-40 is available in 5.1 Qt containers...O'Reilly's and I think Advance Auto.

I cannot say which is best other then I use M1 0w-40 and Castrol 0w-30. I have not noticed any fuel nor any performance differences.
