Somewhere someone wrote about this, but they didn't talk about the cutting of the tape amplification traces which prevents the ground loop feedback noise you'll get if you try to use a cigarette lighter charger.
I've done this on both of my E430,,, a 2001 and a 2000. It'll be the same for E320 and other cars that use the Becker BE 6003 Audio 30.
1.5 hours
Remove the stereo with the special Mercedes Benz Becker removal tool from the dealer. You'll also need a size 8 Torx. Cut the traces, otherwise the music will sound garbled after 30 minutes of driving. The traces go back to the tape amplification stuff which will create a feedback loop if left uncut. Remove the black ribbon from inside an old tape(so that it never needs to "auto reverse" when the tape ends) to use in the tape player. Select “tape” on the stereo and let your Ipod play! If you want to charge your Ipod while listening, or to use this conversion for a Sirius satellite radio Dock and Play setup, then you'll need to use a dc to ac adapter (small $5 one on xbay) and then plug your home charger into it so that it kills the " ground loop caused " static noise in the speakers. Here are many pictures in my photbucket album Aux in w210 e430 e320 pictures by kuhlmeister - Photobucket

I have this same radio and just completed the mod. IT WORKED! Thanks!
I had to go out and buy a tinier soldering iron and reading glasses. I expect to use them both again. few details:
1. I would highly recommend some sort of magnification.
2. s someone mentioned on another thread. there are "pads" on the other side of the board corresponding to these points. If one wants to further disassemble the radio, it would be easier to solder to these pads. There is also a third pad which I'm guessing is ground. But i just wound the ground around a screw.
3. I used the cord and male plug from some headphones that were broken. I decided I wouldn't need a female end. I just wanted to plug it directly into the headphone jack on my phone.
4. The wires inside were yellow, red, and green. I googled it and made an educated guess that the yellow was right, the red was left, and the green was ground. I was correct.
Thanks again kuhlmeister, for the specifics on my radio and for the tip to cut the leads to the tape. Thank you JC-Place for the original "how-to".
5. Took me a couple of hours, including going to radio shack. I could do it again in 15 mins if I needed to.

I apologize if I've posted inappropriately, or have repeat posted. (forums newbie)

I really could use some direction towards accomplishing this with a Becker BE1692. I'm looking to do this with the small bluetooth transmitters that have been going around for a while.

For the life of me I can't find any kind of schematic for the board. I've found plenty for what I call the "pig-tail"... the cable connector out the back of the head, but not the board. I've already got the head taken apart. I just can't figure out L & R on the board, nor the cutting of the tape amplification spots, which I have a follow up question:

I'm assuming cutting the tape amplification spots will basically disable hearing any tapes being played?

Any help /direction towards BE1692 schematics is GREATLY appreciated.

My Information / Involved:
* 1998 E320 4matic Wagon
* Becker Model: BE 1692
* Alura-Tek bluetooth audio receiver as seen here:

Look at the "stickies" at the top of the forum board, under "audio" there is a how to on the radios used in the 1996-1998 model years. I did it for mine and it works fine, you don't disable the tape deck - the how to explains it and has pictures of the circuit board.

RE: Website "stickies" and forum areas:
* I've never understood the term "stickies" in this or any auto forums. Are you talking about tabs, headings, or what? I looked for anything at the top of the main page for "audio" and couldn't find anything either.

* This forum topic deals with a similar Becker model. The specific model of ours, which I listed in my post and info - I've never been able to find in these forums or anywhere else, and I still can't find any "audio" area.

* There are several different models of heads for years 1996 - 2002. You're convinced there's a solution for my specific radio head model and year of car - please provide a specific link. That's why I was asking here in this forum's thread, because it's the closest solution I've come across. My specifications /info is posted in my original post.

RE: Cutting tape deck lines:
* I may have mis-spoke and incorrectly explained the reasoning and question regarding "disabling" the tape deck.

The issue regarding cutting the lines I referred to was mentioned in the author's main post - as cutting the amplification lines from the tape deck, referencing even more specifically the reason - if you were using were trying to use a power adapter from the cigarette lighter, which would cause extra noise from the tape deck to come over the speakers.

Cutting those two lines was to eliminate the noise. Hence, why cutting the amplification of the tape deck. In my case, it makes perfect sense as it's exactly what I would be doing in supplying power to a blue tooth transmitter. I had planned on getting power from the cigarette lighter to USB.

Cutting audio amplification "from" the tape deck would then in theory, cut music from being able to be transmitted through the car's speakers, essentially then... disabling the tape deck.

Let me further clarify my goal:
* Adding a bluetooth transmitter to a Becker BE1692 head and use the cigarette lighter as a USB power source to supply power to the bluetooth transmitter.

* All I need to do is add the small pin (.8mm or whatever size it is) either male or female directly to the board as described in this current forum post (Aux in conversion W210 E430 E320 Becker BE 6003 Audio 30 with pics) that I'm commenting in.

From what I understand, there are two types of manufactured heads that were installed from 1996 - 2002, and then there were a few varying models installed from one of the manufacturers, Becker. Our model is the BE1692 - different from the BE6003 talked about in this string.

What I don't want to do:
(1) I won't want to give up the disc changer, so that rules out things that replace part of the back "pig tail" pins like:
BECKER 10-PIN AUX INPUT CABLE

(2) I don't want to send our unit into Becker for $100 + shipping, etc. I can't even get them to respond to email anyway!!

(3) I don't want to "upgrade" to a generic 3rd party head that screams I've got a better radio in the car, nor "upgrade" to a newer model Benz head that doesn't look like OEM to the model and year of our Benz.

So that leaves the wiring option listed here, which I don't have a problem doing... "IF" ... I can find the BE1692 board schematics, or... get info somewhere in the forums showing and confirming a solution that doesn't involve any of the options I mentioned that I don't want to do.

The stickies are the highlighted (permanent) thread headings at the top of the W210 page. Within those threads you can find several sub-headings including DIY audio.

Plus there is a completely separate forum entitled Audio & Telematics in the technical section.

Hope this helps.

I had already looked in Audio & Telematics. There are several posts regarding similar topics, but nothing close, but you must not know any solution either, as I had requested any direct link to any specific info, but saw none in your reply.

As mentioned in my post - we have an e320. I know this isn't the forum for e320's, but there were different Becker model heads in all the Mercedes models, and this was the closest thing I've come across to what I need to do.

Although, I've pretty much scoured the internet and forums - I will try to find "stickies" again, but I doubt I'll find anything further.

Funny thing is, Elvis. You commented on this same exact issue about cutting the tape deck leads.
You said, "Should sound better. Maybe you need the ground wire. Also did you cut the traces to the cassette? Mine sounds almost as good as a cd "

http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w210-e-class/1592375-diy-1996-1998-w210-becker-radio-3.html

I just want to make sure if I need to do or not before closing everything up. And if you do cut the amplification leads - why and how it would not affect the audio level if a taper were to be played.

I really don't know how to reply! :surrender: I'm actually very confused because I don't believe "any" of my posts were rude or were in any way flaming or otherwise.

Unfortunately, too often, too many people get offended with something they "think" that's said, and too often people either misread, misinterpret, or read between the lines when there's nothing there.

I'm at least one step closer to completing this project, but I still have those last, unanswered questions. I guess I'll find other resources.

Suffice to say, my very first experience here with this website has been made a memorable one. I'll retire, delete my user ID, or whatever it is one does. Thanks.

I completed this mod. It works great, but even though I cut the traces, I still get the ground loop feed back. Only thing I did different was I soldered my ground to the ground on the board inside the head unit instead of attaching it to the screw on the radios chassis. But I'm not sure if that's the cause, because ground is ground, right? Other than that, this is a great write up, thanks.

Just want to give a quick BIGUP! to the OP here.... this was super helpful and now my new to me w210 e55 has a modern comfort that nowadays is pretty necessary with all the phone streaming services. I had never worked circuit boards, but had soldered before. BIGUP OP!!!!

Also, i know this is a competing site but this thread had some info as well such as when ripping open the aux cord, which wire is which. (mine had the ground wrapped around the two insulated left and right channel wires, which made it a bit of complicated. Dissecting my aux cord took the longest i think!!

Hi, I see this is an old thread, but I'll try my luck.
I have a be1692 and the illumination LED's went out. I only have left 2 of white near the power knob and the blinking red one. I've checked and the power does come into the radio, so I think I have a break somewhere on the board.
Wondering if you have a schematic for this board 1224.311-273 BS.
I don't want to put a newer deck in the car, i'm trying to keep it original.
Thanks.

My solutions was....
My buddy had a board from same deck model that had the LCD screen removed few years back for his radio. I took the LCD screen from my board and installed it onto his board and put it back into the radio. It works now, just need to clean the volume knob, cause it gets non-responsive in the morning...

If you can't find find a replacement deck, I found few companies that repair Becker radios, just search the web.
