How much does a rear window replacement cost? :)

(07-03) 20:29 PDT WOODSIDE -- A small plane made an emergency landing on Interstate 280 in Woodside Sunday night, striking the rear window of a moving Mercedes-Benz on its way down, authorities said.

No injuries were reported from the incident, which happened at about 7:15 p.m.

The Cessna 210 was on a "photo mission" when the plane lost power, said Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Allen Kenitzer. The pilot issued a mayday call and landed on the northbound lanes of I-280, just north of Farm Hill Boulevard.

During the landing, a wheel of the plane hit the rear window of the Mercedes. The window was smashed but the plane was not damaged, according to the FAA. Shortly after the incident, the plane was moved to the side of the freeway.

Investigators with the National Transportation Safety Board were responding to the scene.

video would be priceless. Small plane accidents are not that rare. Just last week in our area small plane was making emergency landing and hit a home killing 2 on board.

That incident made it to our TV news. The Mercedes had the roof pretty dented as well, although most coverage was about brand new Cessna engine failing on test flight.
Could not happen with Mercedes engine

In this particular case, it'd be free for the owner of the MB. Otherwise, you'd be looking at the $400 - $500 price range without glass coverage. With glass coverage it'd be a bit less if you allow insurance to select glass for you. However, like I found out, not much less, so I insisted on MB glass (this was for the windshield but I very much doubt it'd be different for the rear glass) and the total cost was still about same. The only benefit was that I had the MB signature on the glass, and depending on your coverage, it may be out-of-pocket - was for me.

Here's the kicker - precisely a week later, a truck spun a rock on my brand new windshield and I was back to where I started. That was 3yrs ago and never even bothered to replace it.

Had the same on my Ford truck. Even worse - in the few days I had new windshield I did NOT sign off my ticket and even with only small crack on the bottom I had to get 2nd windshield in a hurry to avoid higher ticket.
Amazingly rear glass can be more costly than front ones at least it was on my Ford flat glass with nothing on it a year ago. I guess supply and demand law click in here.
