Post Windows won't go down

A funny thing happened on my way to pay for parking.

This just happened all of a sudden but one day I drove up to a parking attendant and tried to roll down my window and it would not go down. I tried the other 3 windows but they did not work either. All other electrical components work just fine but the windows don't. I check the fuses in the engine compartment and they all seem to be in good condition. I don't know if there is a reset button or a relay that needs to be reset or changed but I need help.

I went on Sticky but I could not find any treads or posts. I tried to search the site but no results were available with my exact problem.

I did learn that my transmission has hope though from another great post on this site.

Keep up all the great work and I hope to contribute one day to repay for all the help I have received from this site. Changed brakes, front and rear shocks replaced, engine oil change, changed radiator fluid, fixed body damage and just enjoyed being a Mercedes Benz E320 owner.

Did you spill anything on the shift plate because that could explain your symptoms. But you would probably have shifting issues as well. Are there any other options such as the power rear window shade that is not working? Have you checked the fuse box to the left of the steering column under the dash?

I have read about the many issues that can arise when spilling drinks and am always careful. No other issues with shifting so I don't think and am hopeful that the wife did not spill anything but all is clean and non-sticky there.

I will check the fuse box under the steering column but is there a particular fuse? I read the fuse guide in the fuse box compartment in the engine area but it makes reference to fuse numbers and not locations. I also know here are fuses under the rear seat but they seem to be for other things.

I will let you know how it goes tomorrow and thanks for the help.

Did you recently have a dead battery or change it? They could just need to be re-synched. The buttons have five positions and the first very soft detent on either side is up or down, but it's easy to go past that to the auto-up/auto-down, and if they need to be re-synched, they won't move.

Try just barely moving/rocking the switch on the down side and see if it moves. If so follow the reset procedure in your manual. (You might also try disconnecting and reconnecting the battery to re-zero things and then see if gently moving the switch works.)

Good thinking gregs210. Just to add the re-sync procedure is somewhere in the stickys too.

The good news is that the car is sealed and windows up. The alternative may not be so good.

In any event there are five different fuses in the window circuit. Two under the hood at 16 and 18 and three under the rear seat at 1, 2 and 3. I would check them all.

You indicated that you tried to open all the windows. I am assuming that was done from the center switches-------------after checking the fuses, I would separately depress the R and L real window switch-------Do the windows open and close?

I checked all the fuses and they are all in good condition and I tried to lower the rear windows and they are still not working. I will resync today.

If you can't open and close your windows, how do you plan on doing that?? Additionally that assumes that voltage is getting to the good door motors. If that was the case your windows would go up and down!! Did I miss something?

So Plutoe is suggesting what direction or action?

Forgive me but I already know that I don't know.

And yes, I tried to follow the sync instruction in the manual but noting happened.

Do the switches on the doors themselves work or have you only tested the ones on the center console? I think that was what Plutoe was asking. Also is there voltage going to the motors in the doors?
