Russian VIN Decoder

I have used the russian VIN decoder with both new and revised versions. Both versions show "P34 convertible (folding) top" I don't think there were any convertibles in 2002 and of course, mine is not. With this info being so far off the mark, should I be skeptical about ALL of the info? Being a Special Edition I would expect to see that noted somewhere.

MBUSAsent me an option list that showed the Harman-Kardon with Dolby 5.1 surround sound. I know this has been argued befor so I went to Harman-Kardon's website and it stated that installatiuns in MBs started in 2002.

I asked for and received the option list from MBUSA. In my opinion they are the most reliable source.

If MB reuses option codes, then that could explain it. For example, code 810 was used to indicate the presence of the Bose sound system - but MB could reuse 810 just to mean that the car has whatever premium sound system was available that year. Naturally, the attitude of MB is that your car is obsolete and you should have a new one, in which case their interpretation of the option could would be correct. It's just laziness (or lack of knowledge) on the part of whoever creates the option code decoder.

The Russian VIN decoder shows a code on my car for deletion of the First Aid Kit - however, my car has the first aid kit in the rear armrest. Probably that code means that the kit is deleted on newer year cars, and the database system of the VIN decoder is not designed to correctly recognize the difference in the meaning of the code based on model year.

The VIN decoder is a great tool, but you have to take its output with a grain of salt.

So all I have to do is call MBUSA and give them my VIN to get this info? I'm not the original owner, though.

After registering as a MB owner on their site, I emailed them 2X in 3 days and received an attached return email with the info you see in the attachment. It didn't answer ALL my questions but it sure did help clear up a couple questions I had.
I agree that the info that MBUSA sends you is the most reliable. After all, They will be doing/did the final window sticker on the car when it is sold new.

I also agree that MBUSA should be the best source of info. They are the ones making the window sticker for the car.
