what OBD II reader to buy CLK 430?

Guys I would like a good OBD II reader for the CLK, what reader should I get and is there any Mercedes specific unit that shows what the codes are? Can any codes or errors be reset from these readers?

Any Obd2 scanner like the 50-70

buck ones at Harbor Freight Tools - Quality Tools at the Lowest Prices or at a store or online for you up there.
It will show all codes and clear them
Online has lists of obd codes and what they indicate but not meaning the solution if you don't know what they point to as a solution. That is what the forum can help with.
Mercedes-Benz Forum w210 section also has links to obd2 codes.
For a bout 100 us you can get scanner that show live data for o2 sensors but that is probably more than you need

00-02 drivers side self dimming heated mirror
17mm special spark boot tool
O2 plug and play sensors
16mm spring loaded swivel spark socket
trans dipstick and magnet

So who sent you over from the 208 forum to ask us?

Amazon has a nice little basic unit for $40 that comes with the code disk. OBD-II is generic, but MB does have some specific codes. Only way to really get those and the chassis transmission ones is with SDS, Snap-On or Carsoft/laptop.

If you want stored analytical real-time data for advanced diagnostics, Equus makes some great units in the $140 range and up.

If all you want is to read basic codes and erase them, the $40 at Amazon is ideal. Small enough to leave under the seat so if you snag a CEL you can check it without digging out a bunch of stuff (and spending a half hour with the equus manual). Plug in, two buttons, simple as it gets.

Here is the deal, I own 2 w126 and 1 w208. The guys on the W126 forum know their stuff. There are few issues we can't solve. As for W208... god bless them but, errr not the same caliber. So I figured there would be plenty of E class guys who were serious drivers who could help. I have a pretty steep learning curve and crave to know everything about the cars I own.

^^^Dood, I was just funnin' with you. I go over to the 208 sometimes to help out with some of the tech questions; lots of guys who know mods and phones and audio, though. The 210 folks seem to have a great mix of it all. FWIW I have all three of the things I mentioned in my post.

Most readers can clear the code but if it is real, the code will come back. The smog tester can detect if a code was cleared.

I know your just busting my chops, I will check out those links you posted. I will be getting the car diagnosed tomorrow at 8am. I am only getting limited throttle and it won't kick down. After I rest the ECU I have a month until it happens again

You don't need to, there are aftermarket ones that are quite affordable, assuming Canada's laws are not so draconian as California. You can pull the rear ones but if you do the fronts you'll live with CELs forever, even if you don't mind irritating Al Gore.
