Got the warning message "Oil sensor defective" on 98 E320

Hi all.

Just got the warning message "Oil sensor defective" on my 98 E320. Is this a DIY task?

Does any one have procedures and pictures how to do this?
Any information is appreciated.

Thanks.

Start with the stickies. There have been some discussion on it already.
From what I remember gassers require dropping the oil pan for sensor replacement, on my diesel it was 2 minutes job... after I drained oil.

If you've had any other unexplained 'errors' such as BAS or had loss of sync in windows and sunroof, you might consider testing your battery. I had a couple of "Oil sensor defective" errors prior to replacing my battery. None after.

The oil sensor is inside the lower oil pan on the front of the engine.

You mean

that you neeed a defective sensor message to remind you to change you oil?
I pity the life expectancy of that poor engine.

With 40,000 km oil change intervals on those engines it is easy to loose track of time....
The oil level sensor on those cars seems to be weaker point. Who knows how electrical part works? Would disconnecting the wire get rid of the error message? Or maybe bridging the wires?
My friend drives with it for years and although I am not willing to fix the sensor for him, he would be happy to get rid of the annoying message each time he starts the car.
