The calculation of the total diameter of a wheel for the 225/50/17 = (225 x 50% x 2) + (17 x 25) mm
= 267.5mm (assuming 1 inch = 25mm)
the total diameter of a 235/45/17 = 235 x 45% x 2 + (17 x 25) = 254mm
hence your proposed wheel would be 13.5mm (0.54inch) bigger than your recommended size.
If you change the wheel size, it would be slightly closer to the fender. Your speedo reading would be a slight underestimate of the true speed of your vehicle.
an 35et rim.OEM rolling height and it won't make a difference in gap. Gap needs to be adjusted by lowering pads, cups,or springs.
31et front even better for front suspension clearance.
I am driving on 37 offset on 17" rim with 225-45 tire and no problem.
But just taking listed sizes is not telling everything. I had a situation on different car, where the same stamped width on different brand had the crown 10 mm wider and was rubbing the fenders on bumps.
Yes they do have a few 'nooks' thankfully no 'crannies' though
I stocked up on those disposable gloves when they were a little under $4 box
5 boxes.
