Has anyone used this size tires on 17s? Seems to be a close match to the original 16s as far as speed goes.

Will they be more comfortable than 45s and have less of a gap from tire to fender, or will it not matter?

The calculation of the total diameter of a wheel for the 225/50/17 = (225 x 50% x 2) + (17 x 25) mm
= 267.5mm (assuming 1 inch = 25mm)

the total diameter of a 235/45/17 = 235 x 45% x 2 + (17 x 25) = 254mm

hence your proposed wheel would be 13.5mm (0.54inch) bigger than your recommended size.

If you change the wheel size, it would be slightly closer to the fender. Your speedo reading would be a slight underestimate of the true speed of your vehicle.

Good luck.

235/45/17 on

an 35et rim.OEM rolling height and it won't make a difference in gap. Gap needs to be adjusted by lowering pads, cups,or springs.
31et front even better for front suspension clearance.

A 235

on a 38 et may interfere with the front suspension. Don't be expecting to lower it and not have to watch out for curbs and what not.
